Andromeda Galaxy - M31
Rising above the north-eastern hills in the early hours during the Queensland Astrofest, M31 (or the Andromeda Galaxy) generally gets a treatment sometime during the week. I’m fairly happy with this image, although I will get more data next time. Mounted on an NEQ6 Pro and taken with the WO 110 ED Magrez @ f4.95, Modded 450D (Baader IR/UV), 12 X 180 seconds, ISO 1600 plus darks, no flats or bias. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker, processed levels and curves in PS CS2.© Tony Surma-Haweshttp://joomla.bas.asn.au/images/gallery/galaxies/2010_QA_M31_1200_w55.jpg
“Great Edge-on Galaxy” or the “Whale Galaxy” (NGC 4945)
A 13th magnitude edge-on spiral with mottled dust lanes. This object is easily viewed in the constellation of Centaurus and spans almost ½ a degree, the apparent diameter of the Full Moon. 450D, ISO 800, Williams Optics 110mm Magrez @ f4.9, stack of 10 x 300 second images in Deep Sky Stacker, processed in Photoshop CS5.© Tony Surma-Haweshttp://joomla.bas.asn.au/images/gallery/galaxies/20110729_4945_proc1.jpg
