NOVEMBER 2017 15 Ceres at Opposition during January 2018 Total Lunar Eclipse By coincidence, minor planet Ceres will be at opposition on this day and at peak brightness for the year. It will be at magnitude 6. 9 – placing it easily in reach of 10 × 50 binoculars from moderately dark locations. The chart below was prepared for 11.31 p.m. AEST, 31st January, 2018/12.31 a.m. AEDT, 1st February, 2018, for the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (but will also be useful elsewhere in Eastern Australia).
