6 BAS OBSERVER Maleny Golf Club – public telescope night by Peter Allison K en Wishaw and the Sunshine Coast BAS members had another very successful public telescope evening on 2 9 th July. Even with minimal promotion, about 40 interested people arrived to learn about our night sky and get the chance to look through a telescope. They had a good range of ’scopes to choose from too: BAS had two 14-inch, one 12-inch and three 8-inch ’scopes – and a few smaller ones too. So everyone had a good opportunity to observe. Ken also conducted a laser pointer tour of the sky and explained our place in the grand scale of the Milky Way. The accompanying images, all at very high ISO, give the impression of day at night, but that was not actually the case. Many thanks to Richard Sharwood for taking these great photographs of the evening.
