Event Details
Find us at the Mt Coot-tha Lookout – Brisbane Astronomical Society will have telescopes set up for the public to view the Moon, perhaps some planets, star clusters and maybe a nebula or two. The kids will love it. From about 30 minutes before sunset to about two hours after sunset. We try and announce the status of these nights on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/BrisbaneAstronomicalSociety If clouds or rain cause the cancellation of an evening we will post an update on Facebook.
These evenings are FREE, but an occassional gold coin donation would be very much appreciated.

Telescope observing evening for BAS members and their guests. This is not a public observing evening.
- maximum of 30 participants
- wide social distancing telescope setup spacing
The site is a privately owned aero modelling field (Calvert Aero Modelling Society – Gratton Field) kindly made available to BAS by the owners. The entrance is off Bourkes Road, West, a few minutes drives west of Rosewood. The property entrance track has a strict speed limit of 20kph, in order to minimise dust and damage to the track surface. This limit is strickly applied – so stick to it! The telescope setup areas are the open grassed carpark and flight field adjacent to the aero club buildings. The site has excellent facilities – toilets, kitchen, refrigerator, kettle, clubhouse lounge area. An attendance fee of $10/telescope is payable on the night.
Event start time is from around sunset and extend until sunrise the next day.
On-site camping is permissible, but bring everything you need.
BAS will also trial conducting dark-sky evenings on the same dates as Calvery, but located at Cunningham Lookout, just west of Warrill View.
Please email our event coordinator, John, darksky@bas.asn.au to join the email list for updates.

Event Details
These evenings are conducted for the benefit of BAS Members at the Warwick and District Archers site 15 minutes drive south-west of Warwick. This is not an event open to the general public night.
The Warwick Archers have a large hill-side lease on Ford Road, Rosenthal Heights, Warwick. Google Maps location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gikrxSm3iKKStain6
Access is easiest by taking Glen Road west from the Warwick Hospital and, after about 7km drive, turing left onto Ford Road. The Archers entrance gate is well signposted.
It is strongly recommended that you contact the BAS President and ask to be added to the Warwick Archer’s email list. Final event organisation is communicated via email.

The Archers have a very large site on the western side of Ford Road. Facilities are good, including, dining pavilion, basic kitchen, tank water, flushing toilets, hot shower, large camping area, plenty of open space and good dark sky. The site is also only 15 minutes drive from Warwick and all its services. The sky is surprisingly dark even this close to Warwick.
However, please be aware there is no 240V power and no true overnight accommodation. Plenty of space for camping and also a swag on the dining pavilion floor is an option.
If BAS members demonstrate sufficient interest in the location we will explore opportunities to create accommodation on-site. At present, you should be prepared to camp on-site.
